HTS Texas, made up of independent commercial HVAC manufacturers’ representatives in North America, announced that it has provided Concord Properties with energy-efficient HVAC equipment for the company’s Renaissance Plaza professional business center in San Antonio. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified project is being conducted in tandem with HTS Texas partner, Gillette Air Conditioning, a mechanical contractor also of San Antonio. The team was chosen because of an 18-year history with Concord Properties.

Owned by an affiliate of Concord Properties, Renaissance Plaza is 11 stories tall and provides the amenities for contemporary businesses.

In an effort to provide cost-effective tenant comfort and to meet growing sustainability standards, HTS Texas and Gillette provided the 200,000-square-foot business center with LEED-qualifying equipment including two 400-ton Daikin-McQuay Magnitude™ magnetic bearing chillers that were hoisted 150 feet into the air for rooftop installation by a 250-foot boom crane.

The oil-free chillers were chosen after a third-party review was conducted on behalf of Concord Properties and determined expected energy savings of nearly 65 percent for Renaissance Plaza. Concord Properties expects to receive approximately $120,000 in local CPS Energy rebates due to the new chillers’ part-load operating efficiencies.

“HTS Texas and Gillette were proud to team together to deliver Concord Properties real success by providing sustainable, cost-effective HVAC equipment for Renaissance Plaza,” said Mike Donovan, principal of HTS Texas. “We believe the eco-friendly installation will further advance the property’s LEED strategy to ‘go green’ while allowing their valuable tenants a cooler atmosphere.”

“For the past 18 months Concord Properties has been dedicated to finding new, innovative ways to modernize Renaissance Plaza by implementing high-performance, LEED-qualifying equipment and technologies that offer a significant return on investment, such as the HVAC chiller replacements performed by Gillette and HTS Texas, lighting and plumbing retrofits, and condensate recycling for use in the cooling tower,” said Bill Ellis, president, Concord Properties. “Thus, this is yet another exciting milestone achieved along our journey to make Renaissance Plaza a market leader with the help of our trusted partners, HTS Texas and Gillette.”
