MILWAUKEE — Telkonet Inc. announced that New York City’s Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan has become the latest hospitality property to select Telkonet’s cloud-based EcoSmart energy management platform. This 770-room, full-service hotel located on Broadway in Times Square is one of New York’s leading and most successful hotels.

The Crowne Plaza Times Square selected PAC Consultants to deploy Telkonet’s EcoSmart System throughout the property to optimize guest comfort while reducing energy consumption and operating costs.

Stephen D. Pletcher, asset manager for the hotel owner, City Investment Group LLC, said, “We installed a number of test rooms and Telkonet performed exceptionally well throughout the process.” He added, “We look forward to harvesting the expected cost reductions and delighting our guests with comfortable and efficient rooms.”

The energy management system is expected to reduce overall electricity and steam consumption by approximately 25 percent in unoccupied rooms. The reduction of equipment run-times is also expected to extend the useful life of the mechanical systems and cut associated maintenance costs.

Telkonet is providing a fully-networked EcoSmart energy management system, replacing the hotel’s existing thermostats with ZigBee-enabled EcoInsight thermostats to develop a facility-wide wireless network capable of remotely monitoring and controlling the HVAC system in each guest room. Use of Telkonet’s Recovery Time™ technology will ensure guest comfort and maximize energy savings, particularly in unoccupied guest rooms, said the company. The entire network will be protected by Telkonet’s EcoCare service to ensure optimal operation and provide proactive maintenance services.

Telkonet, as a Con Edison Market Partner, worked with PAC Consultants to take advantage of all energy efficiency incentives available through the Con Edison C&I Energy Efficiency Program, with the objective of optimizing the financial viability of the project.

Pletcher said, “The decision to select Telkonet for our energy management system was very deliberate and included exhaustive reference checks. Our Times Square Crowne Plaza hosts guests from all over the world. We wanted the functionality of the system we selected to be similar to what many of our guests are likely to have in their own homes — legible displays, easy to understand controls, simple and clean functionality — all in addition to the substantial financial returns we expect from the Telkonet system. The ability of the system to monitor itself, assist our hotel manager in responding to guest comfort issues from a remote location without the necessity of visiting the rooms, and being able to see the savings we are accruing on a room-by-room basis are all substantial reasons for our selection of Telkonet.”

Jason Tienor, CEO of Telkonet, said, “The Telkonet EcoSmart platform provides extensive benefits. Where before most hospitality property managers had no ability to monitor, control, and commission the building controls and mechanical systems on an ongoing basis, with EcoSmart, it’s now easy to demonstrate savings, validated by powerful data and measurement and verification reports. Our clients have been positive about the properties in which they’ve installed EcoSmart and we’re consistently pleased with savings that exceed our original projections.”
