Oct. 25, 2011: Ingersoll Rand Businesses Featured in Verizon’s Home Monitoring and Control Service

CARMEL, Ind. — Ingersoll Rand announced the combined efforts of its Trane and Schlage units working with Verizon in launching Verizon’s new Home Monitoring and Control service. The service creates a “connected home,” giving consumers remote access to their thermostat, locks, lights, appliances, and energy use.

The new Verizon service offers homeowners the ability to:

• Remotely access, monitor, and control various aspects of their homes via a smartphone, PC, FiOS TV® and, eventually, via a connected tablet computer;

• Manage the comfort of their homes via a Trane® thermostat control;

• Control their Schlage® door locks;

• Manipulate home appliances and lighting from anywhere; and

• View their energy usage in near real-time.

“We are proud to work with Verizon in the launch of its new Home Monitoring and Control service, which ultimately, will change the way people live in their homes. It not only keeps homeowners comfortable and secure, it helps them to manage their lives better and save energy, too,” said John Evans, president, Residential Security Solutions at Ingersoll Rand.

The Verizon Home Monitoring and Control service offers three package options. The first package, a home monitoring kit, allows customers to remotely turn lights on and off, and peer through networked cameras. The second package, an energy control kit, features energy-monitoring devices like the Trane thermostat control and special adapters that control appliances, plus a sensor placed on the circuit box to measure whole-house electricity use. The third package, a home monitoring and control kit, offers both home- and energy-monitoring equipment. There are additional devices, such as wireless door locks from Schlage that allow remote locking and unlocking of doors, advanced cameras that can pan and tilt or be installed outdoors, plus window and door sensors that pair with light modules, allowing the lights to turn on when the door is opened.

In addition to working with the Ingersoll Rand businesses Trane and Schlage, Verizon is working with other hardware providers to deliver the connected home, including ActionTec, Aeon Labs, SerComm, and application provider Motorola Mobility/4Home.

“Making the smart home a reality is another way Verizon is breaking down barriers between ‘home’ and ‘away’ to support a borderless lifestyle and give our customers the tools they need to live greener lives,” said Eric Bruno, vice president of product development for Verizon. “These kinds of two-way communications and intelligent management tools can create a dynamic and interactive relationship between energy users and providers, which is essential to creating a smart energy ecosystem.”
