ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) announced that it has recognized over 100 contractors through its new Quality Assured (QA) program.

The QA program was launched in mid-February and ACCA recognized its first QA contractor in May. Since then, ACCA said there has been a steady flow of contractors applying to the program. The list of QA-recognized contractors can be viewed at www.acca.org/industry/quality/quality-assured/qa-new-homes-recognized-contractors.

“We are extremely pleased with the response from contractors to this new program over such a short period of time,” said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. “We knew this program would be popular because it supports Energy Star for New Homes Version 3, but the initial response has shown us that contractors are eager to participate in programs that hold them accountable for the quality of their work. We believe the QA program raises the bar for contractors and will encourage more contractors to follow the Quality Installation standard, ultimately making the HVACR industry more professional.”

Any contractor who works on new homes intended for Energy Star rating that are permitted on or after Jan. 1, 2012, must be a QA contractor.

To participate in the QA program, contractors must satisfy four requirements:

• Participate in an orientation course, which is available online, that provides an overview of the EPA Energy Star New Homes Program, as well as ACCA QA;

• Maintain licenses, insurance, and/or bonding as required by the federal, state, and municipal governments in which the business operates;

• Implement written policies, procedures, and practices stating how the contractor supports achieving quality in the field; and

• Install HVAC systems in Energy Star-intended new homes that meet the requirement of the ANSI/ACCA 5 QI - 2010 Quality Installation Standard and comply with program requirements.

Contractors do not have to be members of ACCA to participate in the QA program.
