ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Air Movement and Control Association International Inc. (AMCA) released a new educational DVD for the HVACR industry titled “System Effects.”

AMCA International recently completed the update of the original Fan System Effect video that had served the industry for over 20 years. The new release attests and reaffirms that, in order for HVAC systems to operate efficiently, the system must be well designed and properly installed to meet the needs of the building occupants. Efficient systems equal cost savings and improved IAQ, which correlates with green, high-efficiency building designs and net-zero energy use buildings.

System effects are described as fan performance loss due to adverse flow conditions at the inlet and outlet of the fan. In addition to adversely affecting fan performance, system effects may also increase noise, vibration, and cause premature impeller or bearing failure.

For older and currently built systems, AMCA Publication 201 provides a means for evaluating the system effects magnitude to identify sources for energy reductions through system improvements.

The new AMCA System Effects DVD and AMCA Publication 201-02(R-2007) are available for purchase at www.amca.org/store/default.aspx.
