The freewatt® plus, an alternative energy system that produces heat and provides backup power, is available. It is the second-generation micro-combined heat and power (microCHP) system that produces heat and electricity for a home, and provides back-up power in the event a home loses power. Additionally, the integrated freewatt transfer switch ensures a smooth transition from grid-connected to back-up power during a power failure. A load manager also maximizes the system’s backup power generation, enabling it to power six loads, like heating and security systems, refrigerator/freezer, and sump pump, with power left over for a convenience outlet, states the company. The system uses a Honda engine/generator to generate heat, producing electric power as a byproduct. The electricity produced can be used to power the home or can be sold back to participating utilities, significantly cutting homeowners’ electric bills during the winter, the manufacturer says.
