PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Smardt Chiller Group announced that it has opened its first United States plant in Plattsburgh, N.Y., after reviewing several alternative sites.

Headquartered in Montreal and with operations there, in Singapore, Melbourne (Australia), and now Plattsburgh, Smardt Chiller Group produces high-efficiency chillers, offering a range of oil-free centrifugal chillers - water-cooled, air-cooled, and condenserless. Since its first installation in 2002, Smardt said it has commissioned over 1,900 high-efficiency centrifugal chillers across the world, from the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, to the Sydney Opera House, to Carnegie Hall in New York.

According to Smardt Chairman Roger Richmond-Smith, “Smardt’s core strength lies in our oil-free centrifugal technology, developed and perfected since 1992, which gives us a clear energy efficiency and ecological advantage over orthodox lubricated chillers. Our magnetic bearings and integral variable-speed drives increase reliability over lubricated machines and, with no oil system to maintain, total operating costs drop away rapidly. With rising energy prices and rapidly deepening concern for the environment and climate change, major global customers like Sears, Deutsche Bank, Hilton, and Sheraton are demanding lowest lifetime chiller costs - where we’re usually unbeatable,” he said.

“Securing Smardt Chiller Group in Plattsburgh is a huge win for the entire region,” said Empire State Development North Country Region Regional Director Peter Wohl. “This global company will not only bring needed jobs to the area, but will help grow the North Country’s economy.”
