RSES Awards Certified Members

DES PLAINES, Ill. - The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) awarded members who passed exams in April with Certificate Member (CM) and Certificate Member Specialist (CMS) status.

In order to become a CM, an RSES member must first pass a rigorous examination that tests the knowledge required to install and service refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. CM-level members are recognized industry-wide as having achieved a superior level of HVACR knowledge. The RSES CM exam is based heavily on theory and practical applications. Three members of the Black Hills Chapter of Rapid City, S.D., were awarded CM status: Lynn J. Amick, Scott E. Larson, and Kennith E. Baker. Two members of the Rochester Chapter of Rochester, N.Y., were also awarded CM status: William J. Getty Jr. and Ryan Kilgore.

To obtain CMS status, a Specialist Member (SM) or RSES member must first pass the CM examination. CMS status is earned by passing one or more of the eight Specialist examinations available. Specialist exam categories include commercial refrigeration, commercial air conditioning, heating, controls, domestic service, HVACR electrical, heat pumps, and dynamic compression.

The following RSES members passed a CMS exam in April and were awarded CMS status: Timothy A. Metcalf of the Yosemite Chapter, Patterson, Calif., passed the CMS exam in HVACR electrical; and Joseph G. Owens of the Antelope Valley Chapter, Lancaster, Calif., passed the CMS exam in commercial air conditioning.

The CM/CMS exam series originated in 1935, and the SM classification was introduced in 2008.
