James “Bud” Healy, dean of education for the Heating, Airconditioning, and Refrigeration Distributors International (HARDI) and HARDI Senior Fellow, passed away at home on July 27 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Healy joined HARDI (then NHAW, the Northamerica Heating, Airconditioning Wholesalers) in 1971 and served as director of education for 38 years. “He was a kind and gentle man whose warmth and friendly spirit was valued by HARDI members, coworkers, and industry friends,” said Donald L. Frendberg, executive vice president/COO.

Healy held bachelors and masters degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, was a prolific writer, and a constant resource for HVACR engineering technology throughout the association and industry. He led the development and growth of education in NHAW/HARDI through the Home Study Institute, Counterperson Certification Program, and the authoring of numerous technical courses and texts.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margie, and children Mary, Eileen, Michael, Dennis, and their families.

Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, 1373 Grandview Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212, or to St. Agatha Catholic Church.

The association’s staff is preparing a memory book of letters from friends and associates, to be presented to his family. Those who would like to participate should send letters to the HARDI office by Aug. 15.
