MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) Chair Mark Boncardo has announced the most recent recipient of HRAI’s Orvil L. Davie Memorial Fund bursary.

Travis O’Brien, of Cambrian College, who will be completing his certificate of Gas Technician II in April, received the award. O’Brien became interested in a career in the HVACR industry while he was working at a steel fabricating plant in Sault Ste Marie. He said he found the Gas Technician II course interesting, challenging, and rewarding.

Recipients of the Orvil L. Davie Bursary can apply the award to their registration/tuition fees, training materials, or travel and living expenses related to their course of study. The Orvil L. Davie Memorial Fund was established in 1987 in honor of HRAI’s first Chair, Orvil L. Davie. The purpose of the fund is to encourage students to seek a career in the HVACR industry by providing bursaries to those requiring financial assistance. Over 70 percent of the current fund balance consists of direct donations from companies in the HVACR industry.
