CertainTeed Corp., Insulation Group: Duct System Acoustical Liner
June 1, 2009
ToughGard™ R duct liner has been reformulated and now contains 25 percent recycled content. Composed of rotary-type glass fibers, the duct liner is primarily used as an acoustical liner in HVAC duct systems. It also helps fight moisture and mold growth and improves the energy efficiency in heating and cooling systems. According to the manufacturer, the duct liner helps building professionals earn points for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification. ToughGard R duct liner has a durable airstream surface and moisture protection. The airstream surface contains an Environmental Protection Agency-registered antimicrobial agent, and provides resistance to tearing, puncturing, and surface wear during installation and cleaning. It is designed for systems operating at velocities up to 6,000 feet per minute and temperatures up to 250°F. The resilient duct liner can be easily brake-formed with sheet metal without damage and recovers all of its thickness from compression.
