PHILADELPHIA - Arkema has introduced a new R-22 refrigerant reclaim program which the company said is an important part of its commitment to provide leadership within the HVACR industry during the transition away from R-22.

“Successful reclaim programs are an industry imperative,” said Craig Thomas, business manager for Arkema’s refrigerants business in North America. “The Forane® Refrigerant Reclaim Program supplements Arkema’s new product development activities,” said Thomas, “including significant global investments in HFC components such as R-32 and R-125, the basis for R-22 replacements such as R-410A, and the newest R-22 retrofit blend, R-427A.”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently published its proposed rule for HCFC allocation beginning in 2010, which will have the practical effect of reducing the total allocation of R-22 for HVACR service needs to a level less than projected industry demand.

Arkema said its Forane Refrigerant Reclaim Program offers an easy-to-use, incentive-based nationwide reclaim program for the company’s customers. The program features a single point-of-contact for all activities, fair payment terms, and utilizes Arkema-supported logistics to pick up reclaim cylinders in the same manner as the company’s current large cylinder program.

The program is designed to provide an additional supply of recycled R-22 to Arkema customers and an environmental benefit by reducing overall ozone depleting potential (ODP) emissions.
