Servoflo Corp.: Capacitance-Based Pressure Sensors
November 10, 2008
The capacitance-based pressure sensor line by Alpha Instruments measures from 0.1-100 inches of water column (wc). All models have a bidirectional version, making them well suited for applications where two directions of pressure need to be measured, says the company. The sensors come in a variety of package styles, including PC board mount, NEMA 1, NEMA 4, and din rail mounting type. Outputs of the sensors include 0-5V, 0-10V, or 4-20 mA. According to the manufacturer, in the voltage version, true zero can be achieved. Some units can be temperature-compensated to 0.01 percent of full-scale per °F. The accuracy varies from 0.25-2 percent at room temperature. The sensors have a calibration method that allows users to have special pressure ranges for certain applications. For example, it is possible to create a range of -0.5 inches wc to +3.5 inches wc. Typical applications include HVAC applications, duct measurement, clean room control, fume hoods, critical containment enclosures, isolation rooms, and other building management applications.
