HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - The Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, (ASHRAE) paired with Old Dominion University’s (ODU’s) Engineering Department, Norfolk, Va., to create the “Gordon Webster Zipperer III Endowed Scholarship in Engineering.” This $50,000 endowment will provide an annual $2,000 scholarship to an ODU engineering student pursuing a career in the HVAC industry.

The Hampton Roads Chapter of ASHRAE holds a golf tournament every spring where all proceeds go to support ASHRAE Scholarships. According to ASHRAE, the chapter was honored to have ODU represented at this year’s golf tournament to inaugurate the First Annual Gordon Webster Zipperer III Endowed Scholarship in Engineering.

According to the association, Douglas Henderson, president of the local chapter, and Gary Hayden, the chapter student advisor to ODU, were the driving forces who pioneered the endowment with ODU’s director of development, Jerome Brinker. The first scholarship will be awarded this fall to a rising senior in mechanical engineering.
