OBJECTIVE:To help preserve rooftop piping that is exposed to harsh external elements.

DESCRIPTION:The rooftops in Texas become extremely hot causing wear and tear on equipment that is installed on the roof. To help protect the piping on city roofs from the harsh climate, Thomas Powell, director of Support Services for the City of North Richland Hills, Texas, installed the Pipe Prop Adjustable Pipe Support System.

“We’re using them for electrical conduit, for gas and for condensation drains - just a little bit of everything now, anything that we need to hold off the roof,” said Powell. “They are inexpensive and really durable.”

He was introduced to these support units when Brown Service Co., Fort Worth, Texas, was installing a new air conditioning system for the city. The units elevate and secure all types of pipe and are available with 1-1/2-inch or 2-1/2-inch saddles to accommodate varying pipe sizes. Its height is adjustable and it is affixed to the roof using adhesive recommended by the roofing manufacturer. No special tools are required for installation.
