TORONTO - Paul Appler, director of research and development at Cliplight Mfg. Co. in Toronto, was named “Speaker of the Year - 2007” by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) Canada.

Appler was chosen from a field made up of a number of candidates nominated by some of RSES-Canada’s 31 chapters. According to David Chafe, president and awards chairman, RSES Canada, his topics addressed many current field problems and trends service technicians are experiencing today.

Appler is known for blending technical information and hands-on training.

“Moisture is a problem with today’s new oils/refrigerants and Paul’s presentation on using micron gauges for more accuracy in deep vacuums was very educational as well as hands-on for all the techs in attendance at a Border Cities Chapter meeting last year,” said Gary Struhar, treasurer and past president, RSES Canada.

As director of research and development the last eight years at refrigeration service tools manufacturer, Cliplight Mfg., Appler has developed sealant for leaking refrigeration systems, an analog micron gauge calibrated specifically for deep vacuums on refrigeration systems, a Schrader valve core remover with “unique” grasping capabilities, and other problem-solving solutions. Aside from presenting educational seminars internationally, Appler is also a First Class Power Engineer and a member of the Institute for Power Engineers (IPE) as well as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
