SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) awarded a Performance Track Environmental Performance Award to Denso
Manufacturing Michigan (DMMI). The award recognizes National Environmental
Performance Track members who have demonstrated exemplary environmental
performance during their participation in the program.
“EPA’s Performance Track partners are ready, willing, and
able to go well beyond mandated requirements - proving that doing what’s good
for the environment is also good for the bottom line,” said Stephen Johnson,
EPA administrator.
Members typically set four public, measurable goals to
improve air, water, and land quality. DMMI’s efforts included: generating
nearly 1,780 fewer tons of solid waste in 2005 than it did in 2003; eliminating
the use of hexavalent chromium through process enhancements; reducing per-unit
emissions by 6 percent; and reducing water consumption by 14.5 million gallons
through process improvements.
“DMMI is very honored to receive the Environmental
Performance Award,” said Junichi Soh, DMMI president.
