ANN ARBOR, Mich. - During the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada’s (UA’s) Instructor Training Week, the Union-Affiliated Contractors (UAC) met with William Hite, general president, UA, and the heads of the UA Training Department to discuss how UAC plans to support the new UA Standards of Excellence.

Tom Gent, UAC chairman; Rodney Jones, UAC executive director; and multiple UAC trustees were in attendance. During the meeting, Jones presented a PowerPoint program on the various aspects of UAC’s plan to implement the standards of excellence. UAC’s plan addresses all levels from the apprentice, journeyman, union leadership, contractors, owners, and general public. It suggested how to best utilize the themes and content of the policy.

UAC’s next step is to develop an action paper that will be reviewed by Hite and then be available to members approximately within the next 60 days. “The UA lit the torch with the Standard of Excellence and now we want to see what we can do to carry the torch forward,” said Lori Abbott, UAC trustee.
