MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - SkillTech Academy has completed its Train the Trainer Program in Good Refrigerant Management Practices in Nigeria. The three 5-day workshops were conducted in Lagos by Ron Verch of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Verch is a Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) certified instructor for the HRAI Environment Canada CFC/HCFC/HFC Control in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry training program.

A total of 58 professional instructors, from various training institutes throughout Nigeria, attended the workshops that were conducted in partnership with the Ozone Programme Implementation And Management Unit (OPIAMU) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This training is one component of Nigeria’s Refrigerant Management Plan that calls for a reduction of CFC consumption in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector in order to comply with the phase-out schedule for CFC’s under the Montreal Protocol.

Topics covered during the training included proper servicing and decommissioning of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, preventative maintenance and inspection, record keeping, recovery and recycling, and the safe handling of refrigerants.
