ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis area’s largest mechanical contractor - Murphy Co. Mechanical Contractors & Engineers - is now among the nation’s top 10, according to a benchmark national survey. The ranking is found in the Oct. 16, 2006, issue ofEngineering News-Record’s (ENR)listing of the “Top 600 Specialty Contractors.” Murphy Co. is now celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2007.

According to theENRsurvey, Murphy Co. now ranks as the 10th largest mechanical contractor in the U.S. after posting revenues of $172.3 million in 2005 - a 22 percent increase from the previous year, or nearly twice the national average forENR’s“Top 600 Specialty Contractors.” Overall, the firm ranks 65th among all specialty contractors in the country, including firms specializing in such areas as concrete, demolition/wrecking, electrical, masonry, painting, roofing, steel erection, and related categories.

Founded in 1907, Murphy Co. has worked in 25 states. The firm was named 2004 Commercial Contractor of the Year byContracting Businessmagazine. Murphy performs comprehensive mechanical contracting services for industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional clients as well as 24-hour service and maintenance services. With offices in St. Louis and Denver, the firm employs more than 800 people company-wide. Among its employees are union craft workers primarily from the AFL-CIO pipefitter, boilermaker, plumber, and sheet metal trade unions.
