DENVER - The Nexstar Legacy Foundation awarded its first scholarships to four college students who were given a sum total of $15,000 in continuing education funds, during its super meeting.

Brad Messmer, a freshman student at Purdue University, majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in business, received the $6,000 Frank Blau Jr. Scholarship Award. Krystin Burrows, an accounting and finance student at the University of Colorado, was given a $3,000 scholarship from the foundation. She is employed by Applewood Plumbing & Heating Co., Denver. She intends to continue her studies to become a Certified Public Accountant and take charge of the accounting department for her current employer. Another $3,000 scholarship went to Justin Latta, a student at Auburn University. He is currently enrolled in the mechanical engineering program, and is seasonally employed by Aux Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electrical of Bessemer, Ala. A third $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Joshua Roden, a mechanical engineering student attending the University of Minnesota. He is setting his sights on a career in the service trades.
