ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The YMCA of Greater Rochester has again partnered with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to implement a series of energy-efficient measures at its Eastside Family Branch. The measures are projected to save the YMCA more than $79,000 in annual energy costs.

"The YMCA of Greater Rochester should be commended for their commitment to create another energy-efficient recreational facility," said Peter R. Smith, NYSERDA president and CEO. "The Eastside Family Branch project, much like the construction and renovation effort undertaken across town a few years ago, is another example of our commitment to helping New Yorkers reduce their energy costs. The YMCA will benefit from reduced energy bills, while patrons and employees will benefit from a comfortable, inviting environment."

"We are pleased to once again partner with NYSERDA," stated George Romell, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Rochester. "The energy-saving measures implemented at our new Eastside Family Branch will allow us to more effectively manage our utility costs, and will provide real cost savings for the YMCA."

Through its New York Energy $mart New Construction Program, NYSERDA provided $146,948 toward energy-efficiency measures implemented at the newly constructed 70,000-square-foot facility. The new branch offers patrons a state-of-the-art Wellness Center, two indoor pools, whirlpool and sauna, gymnasium with indoor track, Active Older Adult Center, two aerobics studios, Child Watch Center, and Family Adventure Center.

The energy-efficient measures incorporated into the new facility include Low-E efficiency glazing, high-efficiency lighting, occupancy controlled lighting, advanced daylighting controls in the natatorium and café, high-efficiency HVAC, and demand-based ventilation utilizing a building energy management system.

It is estimated that these energy-saving measures will result in an annual savings of 204,713 kWh of electricity - a projected $79,345 - for the YMCA of Greater Rochester. In 2004, NYSERDA awarded the Rochester YMCA $51,416 for energy-efficient measures installed at its Westside Family Branch.
