WASHINGTON, DC — Republicans in the U.S. Senate and President George W. Bush have been pressing for Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) to bring up the energy bill for a floor vote, citing national security as a major concern. Veterans groups have now likewise called for action.

The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans Institute, and other organizations all signed a letter to Daschle calling the energy bill a national security priority and supporting Senate approval of H.R. 4, the House of Representatives’ version which was passed in August.

The Republican leadership has threatened to attach the bill to other proposed legislation if Daschle does not move on it soon.
