The Rohm and Haas Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Community Partnership Subcommittee has announced that, through a grant provided to the Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA), the Rohm and Haas Company will fund the application of its Cool Roof technology on a residential block in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia. The block with the greatest number of interested residents will be chosen for the project.

According to Rohm and Haas, the reflective coating is designed to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by asphalt roofs during the summer months and will extend their life span up to five or 10 years.

The company also said that the use of elastomeric coatings has been shown to reduce the amount of energy needed to cool air conditioned homes by approximately 22 percent.
