UTC Fuel Cells (South Windsor, CT), a unit of United Technologies Corp., recently announced the installation of a PC25™ fuel cell system to provide distributed power at the Rebekah Baines Johnson Health Center in Austin, TX. Austin Energy installed the 200-kW fuel cell, which also produces 900,000 Btu of usable heat per hour in addition to electricity.

The health center is using the heat produced by the unit to heat water for the facility, helping it avoid the cost and the emissions associated with operating a natural gas-fired boiler, says the company.
