Aug. 13, 2003: NIST And Purafil Work On IAQ Design Tool
To supply NIST with results and suggestions from using the software, Purafil incorporates IAQDT into Enersave, its energy savings program developed to reduce outside air intake rates in commercial facilities.
Based on a recent interpretation of ASHRAE Standard 62-2001, Enersave uses the standard’s IAQ procedure, which “allows the use of any amount of outdoor air deemed necessary” if the designer can show that indoor air quality is acceptable to human occupants. Enersave provides the filtration, documentation, and verification needed to comply with ASHRAE 62, says the company.
Per Purafil’s recommendations, NIST has added ASHRAE 62 formulas to IAQDT that calculate contaminant concentrations in commercial facilities. Purafil will collaborate with NIST on future IAQDT improvements.
Purafil Inc. manufactures gas-phase air filtration systems. NIST is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, Technology Administration, which develops and promotes standards and technology.
