CHANTILLY, Va. - Several new projects have been approved by the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA) board for 2005. They include the following:

  • HVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manual - Revisions to the 1985 first edition of SMACNA's HVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manual will include testing/research for performance of duct sealing and leak testing in residential and commercial applications.

  • Accepted Industry Practice for Industrial Duct Construction - Updates to the first edition of Accepted Industry Practice for Industrial Duct Construction will include the latest material from both the Round Industrial Duct Construction Standards and Rectangular Industrial Duct Construction Standards.

  • IAQ Guidelines for Occupied Building Under Construction - A task force is slated to develop a project scope for revisions to the 1995 first edition of SMACNA's IAQ Guidelines for Occupied Building Under Construction. When complete, the new book will contain new industry standards, as well as information on moisture control and temporary heating and cooling.

  • Fire/Smoke Damper Life Safety System Task Force - This task force will be developing a program for performance, inspection, validation, testing, and maintenance of HVAC life safety systems in new and existing commercial and institutional facilities.

  • Fleet Safety Pamphlets - The SMACNA Safety Department will produce fleet safety training pamphlets to offer proactive vehicle safety information for service trucks and construction-type trucks.
