West Virginia Governor Bob Wise, along with members of his Energy Task Force, recently introduced an energy action plan for the state, which calls for the continued use of its considerable coal and natural gas resources, while also urging the development of new energy and environmental technologies, energy-efficiency measures, and the use of renewable energy.

“Events around the globe have signaled the need for a more efficient, environmentally friendly energy supply. West Virginia has a unique opportunity to become a leader in the research and development of new energy technologies — technologies that will allow us to continue to utilize our fossil fuel resources,” Wise said.

The program’s action items include promoting the commercial and residential use of distributed energy generation and renewable energy, and establishing a green buildings program.
