Renewables Database Survey Yields Responses
A survey about the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) Website’s renewables database yielded responses from 85 members, with contractors representing just over half of initial respondents. Over 90 percent indicated that they were unaware of the database prior to the survey.

Ductless Split Shipments Increase Significantly
The Manufacturers Division of the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) released its first quarter 2008 shipment results. According to the association, ductless split system shipments showed the largest gain increasing 37 percent.

RSES Announces Speaker of the Year
Paul Appler, director of research and development at Cliplight Mfg. Co. in Toronto, was named “Speaker of the Year — 2007” by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) Canada. Appler was chosen from a field made up of a number of candidates nominated by some of RSES-Canada’s 31 chapters.

The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) launched a new Web page that will “provide a single source for contractors on controls training available in Canada.” The HRAI Controls Training Schedule was developed by the Canadian Controls Council.

Transportation Amendment Aims for Safety
The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act of 1992 (TDG) has undergone some changes by Transport Canada. One of the key changes under this amendment is that the 150 kg Gross Mass Exemption portion of the regulation now permits contractors to transport most Class 2 gases.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) are notifying consumers that oil-fired furnaces manufactured by INOV8 International Inc., LaCrosse, Wis., have not been evaluated for safety by UL and ULC and bear unauthorized UL and/or ULC marks for the United States and Canada.

Uponor Names New General Manager
